This team will consist of our youngest wrestlers in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Tentatively, they will practice on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:15-630and compete in local CT tournaments on Sundays. This usually amounts to two tournaments per month and finishes with their State Championships at the end of February. Their first practice will be November 28.
This team will consist of our wrestlers in grades 3rd-6th. Tentatively, they will practice on Tuesdays and Fridays from 5:15-6:30 and compete in local CT tournaments on Sundays. This usually amounts to two tournaments per month and finishes with the Qualifiers at the end of February followed by the State Championships in New Haven. Their first practice will be November 29.
Gladiator Duel Team
This team will consist of our oldest and most experienced wrestlers in grades 7th and 8th as well as wrestlers who have been invited from grades 3-6 to help fill out the roster at the lower weights particularly for duel tournaments. They will practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 and will compete in both local CT tournaments and regional tournaments on Sundays. The expectation is that wrestlers on this team will commit to the tournaments we enter as a team. The three out of state tournaments we have identified at this moment are all within 2.25 hours. This group will definitely move at a quicker pace with plans of competing out of state in both duel and individual tournaments. This usually amounts to two tournaments per month and finishes with the State Qualifiers at the end of February followed by the State Championships in New Haven. Their first two weeks of practice will be November 15, 17, 21 and 22 at 6:00. After the first two weeks, they will go to their regular schedule of Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00. We are anticipating not everyone will be able to begin that early due to fall sports commitments, so please inform the coaches if your child is one of those wrestlers when you register. We also understand that a 7:00 start may not work for many of our younger wrestlers, but it is something we want to try this year so we can take on more new wrestlers and give all levels the best experience possible.
Gladiator Freestyle / Greco Team- This program is for the more advanced high school wrestlers who want to travel to elite regional events. The goal for these team members is to make it to the CT National Team and travel to Fargo, ND to compete in the largest tournament in the world. The cost of this program is $400 and includes Club membership, USA Wrestling membership, warm-up and entry to the 3 tournaments we host and two practices a week for about 3.5 months and partial sponsorship for the National Team and other National Level events should members qualify.
A Little History:
Since 1988, we have had at least 10 All Americans, including a National Champ. We have also hosted clinics for years with some very high level coaches, including National Champs, USA National Team members, local and regional college coaches, etc. We currently have 5 alumni wrestling in college. We have also hosted a press conference for Bellator at the club with professional MMA fighters that was shown on Spike TV and PPV (one of our coaches was fighting under the Bellator banner as a professional MMA fighter). We have also sponsored coaches in national and international events and they have competed under the Bristol Gladiator name. Coach Kyle Jahn was ranked as high as 6th nationally in freestyle and was trying to make the Olympics. He has placed in the top 8 at both national and international tournaments.
Gladiators have traveled outside of CT as a part of this program and the CT National Team, to all of the New England states, NY, NJ, PA, NV, VA, NC, MD, WV, and ND.
