In partnership with 2-4-1 Sports
and Growing Great Schools, our Club has launched a new Physical Literacy program in 2016!
Physical Literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activity for life. For kids to get physically active, they need to feel confident in various activity settings. That confidence stems from having learned fundamental movement skills – Physical Literacy – as a child. Just as learning to read, the development of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sports skills is critical if children are to feel good about physical activity. Children who are physically literate move with confidence in a wide variety of physical activities in multiple environments that benefit the healthy development of the whole person.
Working in partnership with national UCONN Husky Sport, and the UCONN Department of Kinesiology, 2-4-1, GGS and BBGC are collaborating to devise a revolutionary solution to address the crippling effects of childhood obesity through the P.L.U.S.S. Club™ Programs.
The P.L.U.S.S. Club™ Programs take a comprehensive approach to wellness by involving all community stakeholders and offering kids opportunities to move throughout the day using BrainErgizers™ and before/after school programming that includes STEAM gardening, science-based, healthy cooking classes, and sports sampling-centered physical activity designed to bring the fun back into sports. The programs “food as fuel, sport as play” philosophy takes a whole child approach to nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyles, ensuring a better future for all. The BBGC is the first community partner to offer the whole P.L.U.S.S. Club™ program from staff training, to BrainErgizers™, getCOOKing™, getPLAYing™, and getGROWing™.
