
Five humanitarians from the greater Bristol community were
honored by the Bristol Boys & Girls Club and Family Center at the 27th
Annual Humanitarian Awards Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 13. The dinner was held at
the Clarion Hotel in Bristol. This year’s honorees have been active in
community groups for years, often working in quiet ways and volunteering many
hours of service to the community. The recipients of this year’s Humanitarian
Awards are:
Arthur "Bud” Funk, Jr. of Burlington is the president and
treasurer of Fourslide Spring and Stamping, Inc. in Bristol. He has been active
with the Bristol Lions Club, Main Street Community Foundation, NESMA, Tunxis Community
College Foundation, Bristol Hospital Development Foundation, Bristol Chamber of
Commerce and the United Way.
John
Lodovico of
Bristol
is the director of
Facilities and Project
Management at Tunxis
Community College.
Recently elected as chairman of the Bristol Tramps organization,
Lodovico has been active with Bristol Hospital , Bristol Historical Society,
Bristol Chamber of Commerce, Bristol Veteran’s Council, Boys & Girls Club
and Family Center and UNICO.
Everett Lyons of Bristol, retired principal of Bristol Eastern
High School, is a district officer and longtime member of the Bristol Lions Club.
He has been active with the Salvation Army, Forestville Village Association, Bristol
Business Education Foundation, the annual Academic Bowl Challenge, and recently
named a corporator for Bristol Hospital.
This
year’s PLUS Award was presented to Judy Murrone a lifetime Bristol resident,
who has worked for ESPN for 30 years. A corporator for Bristol Hospital, she
has been active with the hospital’s Development Foundation, Bristol Chamber of
Commerce, Special Olympics, United Way, McCabe -Waters Little League, Bristol’s
225th committee and served on the Mayor’s Team. The PLUS award honors those who
demonstrate positive leadership and unselfish service.
The Oliver Gaudreau Lifetime Service Award was presented,
posthumously, to Paul Castolene who for over 30 years was a member of the Older
Members of the Boys & Girls Club and served in leadership roles at the club
including president, chairman and board member.
The award was accepted by his life’s partner Diane Rode.
The Gaudreau award is named for Oliver E. "Ollie” Gaudreau,
Sr., a club member for 82 years who died in 1997.
A Special Service Award was presented to the Bristol Quota
Club.
