2011
Youth of the Year

Adam Otero

The Boys & Girls Club motto is "Be Great.” So, Adam Otero said it was an honor to be chosen as the Club’s Youth of the Year for 2011.  "The people that I was up against had some really great stories. I’m just honored to compete against them and to win this,” he said.  Otero, 17, was the guest of honor at the club’s 70th annual Recognition Dinner on Tuesday, March 22nd at the Clarion Hotel. The dinner recognized club members who have excelled in the club’s athletic, education and recreational programs.

A senior at Bristol Eastern High School, Otero is the son of Elizabeth and Samuel Otero. He will be attending Pace University.  He has been a club member since he was a student at Mountain View Elementary School, when he played Biddy and Cadet Basketball at the Club. Then as a student at Northeast Middle School, he joined the Boys & Girls Club’s basketball travel team.  "I took my freshman and sophomore years of high school off (from the Club) because I was focusing on school work. Then in the beginning of my junior year, I started again as a volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club.  I've been volunteering ever since,” he said.  Adam has logged 150 volunteer hours this year and works every Monday afternoon at the club, mentoring younger kids and working with the Keystone Club. Keystone is the club’s program to promote leadership and service experience for teens aged 14 to 18.
